A Brief History of Audi
Audi is comprised of four separate automobile manufacturers that merged in 1932. Audi was formed when the four competing companies Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer merged to form the Auto Union. The company was first used to create an armored car for the German army. During and after WWII it suffered major setbacks and had to relocate its factory and headquarters.
After WWII the Auto Union focused on producing vehicles with two-stroke engines, and it wasn’t until 1965 that the Volkswagen group acquired the Auto Union, officially changed the name to Audi, and began producing four-stroke models. In 1980, Audi introduced its first performance car, the Audi Quattro, which went on to achieve great success in racing and rallying. Audi also began focusing on creating more upscale vehicle models to compete with BMW and Mercedes.
Audi has made a name for itself by producing innovative vehicles, and now boasts sales of more than one million vehicles per year.
